This beautiful session took place when it happened to be the family's older daughter's sweet 16 and the time to update their family portraits. The dad is my husband's co-worker in their Ph.D. program back in 2007 in Tucson, so wow, we have known this family for 15 years. Seriously, but I clearly remember their older daughter as a sweet toddler when we came over to hang in their house. Wow, time really flies faster than we can imagine. When you finally find the time to update your family portraits, your kids are in college now...
When they settled down and bought their house in Maryland, Kari, the mom, contacted me to design a wall gallery for them. She wanted a session that celebrated her older daughter and captured the bond between their girls and the family. I was super excited about their session partly because I know how fun this family is and because it would be my first time meeting their younger daughter. I already know how cute she is from their social media updates, so I knew it would be a fantastic session, but I didn't know that she was 100 times more adorable than I thought. She brought a wonderful energy to the session and was definitely a gem to the family. I was so glad to finally catch up with everyone while capturing the sweet and candid emotions of my favorite people.
The taupe and teal colors theme is so unique. The colors theme was determined based on the mom's hair color - the unicorn hair colors. You probably won't tell she is an outstanding virology professor and researcher at the university - yes, she has profound knowledge as to handling the COVID-19 situation. We are so grateful to be surrounded by the great and correct information she shared continuously to be better prepared with COVID. This family are kind, sweet, but powerful at the same time.
Subtle, neutral colors with some accent colors, such as teal in this case, are one of the most beautiful combinations in your family portraits. It does not overpower the subjects(people) but creates interesting depth for your photographs. I really love how the photos turned out to be bright and soft at the same time and how their beautiful smiles stood out in the images. I hope their photos will brighten up your day too.
Even after the session is done, the little one still have the energy to pull the wagon for me. Ha! I love that.
