A photo shoot for a rainbow baby can be a beautiful way to celebrate both the child you now hold and honor the angel babies that you now hold close to your heart.

If you’re currently pregnant and interested in a rainbow baby photoshoot, here are some ideas to think about.

Rainbow Baby Photo Shoot Ideas

When using your rainbow as a motif in a photoshoot, you can go two routes. Many people take the rainbow theme literally and love to integrate lots of color into the photo shoot. However, if you prefer a more muted and minimalistic scheme, there are still plenty of ways that you can celebrate your new addition while remembering your angel babies.

1. Option 1: Go for Color

As noted above, this is the most common path. People often choose to embrace the rainbow theme and use a variety of accessories to symbolize their rainbow baby during the photo shoot. This includes:

· Using flowers of various colors

· Painting a rainbow and posing baby underneath or at the end of it

· Arranging a shot with rainbow-colored props

· Wrapping baby in rainbow-colored wraps or blankets

These types of shoots often focus on baby, and thus, they make sense as newborn photos. However, if you’d like to incorporate other members of your family, you could consider having each dress in a different color.

2. Option 2: Stay Neutral and Use Props

For other couples, the focus is much more on the journey it took them to become parents. Yes, this is their rainbow baby, but they don’t want to forget the path they walked to becoming parents. They want to find a way to acknowledge the angel babies that came before the rainbow. They may want newborn photos, but they also want to use this shoot as an opportunity to get photos of the entire family as well.

For this approach, I recommend a much more subtle and muted color palette. Some simple props (ex: angels, hearts, or another symbol the couple holds dear) are an easy way to show and incorporate the angel babies in the photo alongside their family.

In this photoshoot, we shot both family photos, rainbow baby photos, and newborn photos in one fell swoop. The neutral color scheme made it easy to switch between individual newborn photos, family photos, and rainbow baby photos. The couple selected three small angel figures to represent and remember their pregnancy losses before their rainbow baby.
